Travis Veale

My inspiration for this artwork was on Hendra Gunawan’s oil painting, “War and peace” which was created in the 1950s. Hendra Gunawan was an Indonesian painter best known for his combining of Western painting techniques and traditional Indonesian aesthetics. There is a sense of remembrance by the sea, The person with the gun stares off into the landscape he looks like he’s remembering his friend that died in the war that they are fighting in. His friend is blue and his skin blends in with the background and he’s beside his friend which is like saying “I’m always on your side” and what I really like about the painting is that it’s really moving because the meaning of the ghost and also how the colours are blended in the background they all work really well together with all the small details in the background like the clouds then mountain and the trees make the painting stand out from the rest
