I took inspiration from an artwork called “What would you do if these pistols were real” by F.X Harsono, an artist who took interest in knowing what people would do back then, this can be shown from its similar cool colours of blue, purple and pink. F.X Harsono was an Indonesian man with questions about a troubling election for the newest President, Suharto, at the time. But the art piece originated from when he was a kid in an art school where a teacher had kicked him out, his rage was shown in his creative work, therefore the pink crackers shaped into a gun. When he grew up, he financial issues which ruled him out of a good job and instead worked for scandals. Because of this he went bankrupt. This backstory has gotten me thinking what would I have done in that situation, it appealed to me in one of the ways. Another way it appealed to me was the artwork, stacks on stacks of pink crackers molded into guns with a table with a chair aside it. On top of the table, there was a book with a question on the first page with, “What would you do if these Crackers were Real Pistols?”
Then, people poured answers onto the book with Political related arguments and others being about their personal life. One of the craziest answers were, “I want to shoot the man with my girlfriend”. I chose the orange background because of the rage that was implemented during his whole career. As in many websites, they have stated that he has infiltrated violence towards President Suharto. The reason why I have included the number 10’s were because of where the original piece has stored, In display in UOB Southeast Asia Gallery 10. For me, this artwork has a lot of definitions, whatever that may be, this artwork has been inspirational for me to think creatively.
