The painting is full of simple shapes and limited colours. The big circle in the middle is half orange and half grey. The orange part might show hope and the end of the war, while the grey part could show loss and sadness. This mix of colours shows the mixed feelings people had at the end of the war.
The numbers 4 and 5 around the circle might refer to the important years 1944 and 1945 during World War II. The two small circles, one orange and one white, stand for the idea of the war nearly being complete.
The dark background with shades of blue and green makes the painting feel impactful at the same time of saddening. The green colour on the right-side show grass with the texture showing the grass waving goodbye to war also with gun shots ploughing through the field
This painting is special to me because it remembers my great-grandfather, who sadly died one day before the war ended. The abstract style lets people connect with the painting emotionally and I personally think about the personal sacrifices my great grandfather made during the war.
