For my artwork, I was inspired by Dancing Mutants by Hernando R. Ocampo. Ocampo was a Filipino modernist painter known for his abstract works that use bold colors and organic shapes to show movement and transformation. I was drawn to this piece because of how the shapes seem to shift and dance, almost like they are alive. The themes in his artwork focus on change, adaptation, and the connection between people and nature. To prepare for my own painting, I researched Ocampo’s style and color choices, looking at how he layered different shapes to create depth. The numbers in my painting represent growth and evolution, showing how things are always changing. I also related this idea to my own life because I am always learning and growing, just like the forms in my painting. My color choices were inspired by Ocampo’s bright, warm tones, which I used to give my artwork energy and movement. To create layers, I used different textures and overlapping shapes to make the painting feel more alive. One of the biggest challenges I faced was making sure my painting looked balanced while still feeling dynamic. However, I think the most successful part of my work is how the colors and shapes come together to create a strong sense of movement, just like Ocampo’s original piece.
