My inspiration for my painting was 'The Pleasure of Being, Crying, Dying and Eating’ by Montien Boonma. I chose this artwork because I feel like it represented my religion and background.  The number 500 is included in my artwork to represent the approximate year in which Buddhism was founded by Buddha. The three pillars in my painting symbolise the three main aspects of Buddhism: Dharma, Buddha, and Sangha. Some of the key beliefs in Buddhism are impermanence, birth, and karma, which are also reflected in my artwork.

To represent the main colours of Buddhism, I chose red, blue, and yellow. Red symbolises knowledge, yellow represents renunciation, and blue signifies purity and knowledge. The small dots scattered across my painting symbolise the achievements and "checkpoints" of life, both big and small. I incorporated the Chinese character 爱, meaning love, because I believe love is fundamental in everything we do, stemming from the heart.

For my artwork, I used sponges and wooden blocks. To recreate the pillars, I used a long wooden rectangle to stamp pillar-like shapes onto the painting.

To create the square shape in my artwork, I carved a square into a piece of paper and stamped it on. I repeated the 爱 character multiple times to emphasise its significance
