My painting was inspired by the installation ‘The Pleasure of Being, Crying, Dying and Eating’. My painting references the number SM08 Because on the menu that is what I always order at my favourite restaurant. My favourite restaurant is Ichiban Boshi, which is Japanese cuisine. I see links here as Japan is a predominantly Buddist country. I used food in my artwork because the installation that inspired me to create this piece of art contains utensils for eating such as chopsticks and bowls. In the artwork that inspired me, we see a structure made out of many bowls that are stacked on top of each other in a circle with 4 tables on each corner. Each table has 4 pairs of chopsticks laid out neatly. The reason why I chose the colours yellow, red, blue and orange as my background was because these are the 4 colours of Buddhism. The red makes me feel drawn to the artwork because red is the colour that is bright and very appealing to the human eye, red also stands for purity, wisdom and fortune. The orange makes me feel warmth inside. When I completed my piece of artwork I hope that when people read this story they see a resemblance and connection between my art work.
