The painting I have been inspired by is Dancing Mutants by Hernando R. Ocampo. He lived 1911-1978. I learnt that he was a leader of a group of radical artists in the Philippines. I thought the painting was nice as the colour scheme and hidden patterns were very clever.

I chose the numbers 2106 as the day 21/06 (the first day of summer break) was the day my disabled sister sadly passed away. As for the composition, I chose to have an ocean background with some volcanic smoke at the top, seaweed as it’s set underwater, a small coffin between a part that has seaweed is shaped like one side of a heart and a shattered other half of the said heart shape. I added a volcano type shape in the middle with an eye pattern at the crater of the volcano and a sort of holy light coming down, representing the call of heaven. I originally used outlines over the background and then painted over those. I used water blending to shade and add smoky effects. The painting itself represents my sister passing away and the grief I had to go through for 40 days to mourn. The eye is symbolic of a feeling of being able to do nothing but watch.
