My painting was inspired by Dancing Mutants, a piece by Hermano Ocampo that explores the aftermath of the atomic bombings. The work focused on the terrible effects of the bombs, which is also something I've been deeply interested in the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. These bombings killed around 246,000 people, which is why I chose to include the numbers 246 in Japanese characters in my painting as a tribute to those lives lost.

The two yellow circles in my artwork represent the two bombs dropped over Hiroshima and Nagasaki: ‘Little Boy’ and ‘Fat Man’ I also added elements that people had reported seeing after the bombings, like the dark grey clouds of smoke, and the crowds of people trying to escape. The fleeing people are shown as small dots to capture the chaos and fear they must have felt.
In the end, my painting is a compilation of different scenes showing the impact of the atomic bombs on the people of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
