My inspiration for my artwork was based of a piece made by F.X. Harsono called What Would You Do If These Crackers Were Real Pistols? F.X. Harsono Was an Indonesian painter born in 1949. He studied painting from a young age so that he was able to support his family in Jakarta and during the start of his career he worked as a graphic designer. And I was impressed by the deep meaning of this masterpiece as he said that he wanted to shoot his principal because he kicked him out of art school and he was financially corrupt and had many crimes involved with woman an so he created this artwork against the Indonesian President Suharto because there was no freedom of speech and this leads me to my paining as this is a rework of F.X. Harsono piece as mine is based of the independence of Brazil from Portugal this is important to me as this is my country and my nationality (as well as Scottish) making this also have a deep meaning. For the numbers 7922 it is for the date of the independence of Brazil the 7 of September 1822 is shortened the numbers by taking away 18 however i still remember it. This is linked to me because i am from Brazil and they are now and independent country. the colours in my painting are yellow, red, green and blue. The reason for this is because yellow, blue and green are all in the Brazil flag and the red makes the numbers pop. I created the different layers by using a sponge to paint and blend the background then i used stencils I made and sponged them red and finally i used a stencil for the letters and painted them. Some of the challenges i faced were making stencils especially the nine because of the circle in the number so i made it into a Roman numeral and it made it easier as well as when i was sponging the stencils they would move sometimes making it a bit messy. The most successful thing i did was definitely the background and blending the colours together. Thank you for looking at my artwork.
