My artwork is inspired by Fx Harsono’s What Would You Do If These Crackers Were Real Pistols. Harsono is an Indonesian contemporary artist known for creating thought-provoking pieces about identity, violence, and political oppression. His work challenges people to rethink everyday objects and the hidden dangers they might represent.
In my painting, I used bold colours, layered textures, and handprints to create a sense of urgency and movement. The deep blue background, splattered paint, and abstract shapes add to the chaotic energy. The handprints—some smudged or distorted—symbolise human presence, struggle, and resistance. I also included large white text-like forms and an abstract figure in the lower right corner, which could represent fragmented communication, suppressed voices, or my own interpretation of Harsono’s themes.
I made this piece using cardboard and poster paint, which adds to its raw and immediate feel. Through this artwork, I wanted to challenge the viewer to think deeper about these themes while still allowing space for personal interpretation. It’s my way of paying tribute to Harsono’s work while expressing my own artistic voice.
