Calum Gurr

My inspiration is from Montien Boonma, The pleasure of Being, Crying, Dying and Eating. I chose this piece because I thought it was really unique and I had so many questions about this one particular art piece. The background colour I smudged all the colours of a Thai Temple because Montien Boonma was from Thailand. I had generated lots of number, for example, I put 49 because Buddha meditated for 49 days and Montien Boonma was Buddhist. I put 16 because on the actual piece there was 4 tables and there were 16 bones on the tables all together. I generated a lot of numbers that are in my piece. In my piece there are Thai symbols but they mean Eat because in the name of the Montien Boonma piece it is called pleasure of Being, Crying, Dying and Eating. In this piece a came through multiple problems, at first I was going to put some famous Thai snacks but they were really hard to stencil so I did these Thai symbols instead. On the 206 my stencil didn’t turn out correctly and now the 206 doesn’t look the best, I definitely could of done better but I will have to deal with it now. Honestly, I really think there could of have been stuff that I can improve on but I think I did pretty well with my art piece. At the start I made some good connections with the numbers and Montien Boonma but when it got to the painting and where we had to do the sponge I didn’t do as well as I thought I would. I tried to make my art piece look like it had lots going on and I made my shapes go off the edge so it is not a full shape. When i saw this art piece in the national gallery i really thought there was something else too it and i wondered how they put that many bowls on top of each other. Overall i really think i did a good job and spent a lot of time on it.
