Arthur Graves

My inspiration for my piece of work was the artwork called dancing mutants by Hernando. R . Ocampo. Hernando was part of a Saturday group of artists and was also one of the pre-thirteen moderns, a group of modern artists. His work was mostly based on WWII, the whole reason he made the painting was because of the nuclear bomb and the atomic bomb. Now, to talk about my piece of artwork and the symbols I used in mine. The reason I used the stencil B-29 is because that is the plane that dropped the atomic bomb. The reason I used the stencil 140M and two x’s and a dash is to represent how many people died during the atomic bomb explosion and fall-out, this face that is made shows emotions of a dead person often represented like this. As you can see in the painting I used the radioactive symbol as it is normally used as a toxic waste sort of thing, or something nuclear is because as the dancing mutants is based on a nuclear bomb, and in the painting you can see a figure trying to run away from flames, as it was inspired by footage in which victims from the after effects of the nuclear bomb died a painful death. Now the reason I used these contrast of colours in the background with the Philippines flag is because Hernando was from the Philippines, and I was trying to represent some blood from the bomb but while also trying to contrast it into a sort of sunset, like a beautiful sunset in the Philippines. I also used the blues squares to represent a sea in the philippines near the flag to demonstrate how Philippines is a very nice island. Near the b-29, the reason I did a separate sunset near B-29 was to imply that this isn’t all about the Philippines and how Japan can still have beautiful sunsets after being hit with an atomic bomb. Finally, the reason I did the border between 140M and the nuclear symbol was because if you take that border away then chaos emerges with the nuclear bomb and the B-29 because is the B-29 dropped a nuclear bomb, then the death numbers would be massive in my opinion.
