I chose Boschband (forest fire) by Raden Saleh to interpret. I focused in on more of the fire aspect and the tigers as I feel like it really stood out to me in the original painting, I was drawn to this particular piece because I feel like there is so much going on and there is so much that you could expand from this particular artwork. The research I did on this piece explains the number choices, as you can see I chose 1, 9 (19) nineteen was representing the number of acres of land burnt in the great fire of Java 1825. I chose to do a more sunset type pallet but also bringing in some greens to represent the heart of the fire and the trees, and the habitat that it is being destroyed. I created layers by using stencils, sponges, blocks, shapes, different colour paints ext. I used stencils like tiger print, to re- introduce the tiger aspect as well as fire shaped stencils to help represent the original painting better, as you can see I stencilled some yellow circles, surrounded by one more yellow circle, I did this to show a “target” where or what the fire would be burning down. I think my stencils and layers were quite successful as they help explain my painting.
