‘A Metropolis horizon’ is the name I chose for my art piece. It symbolises the sight of the future and the advancements in technology and living. I thought that since we are already making advancements in current day living it's not so far away which is why I chose horizon. I chose this because I'm fascinated by the head into the future, and I wanted to explore this through my art piece. My number ‘2050’ indicates the year that is estimated to be  ⅔ of the world’s population will be under Urban Living. For my inspiration I chose the art piece by F.X. Harsono Called ‘What Would You Do If These Crackers Were Real Pistols?’, created in 1977. He painted this as a political statement against the Indonesian President during the time of Mohammed Suharto and the New Order Regime. I thought that this art piece would be a good connection for my art piece as it symbolises the world and freedom. I thought this could be a good key for my painting because it aims to capture this evolving world, where technology and urban living intersect, making viewers reflect on the changes and problems we will face in the coming years.

My goal for this art piece was to use a variety of tools and techniques to give the painting a unique twist and create an abstract effect on the floating islands to give the appearance that it's been pulled from the ground. For the clouds I used crumpled tissue paper and water colour paints to create a splotchy shape and colour change. For the numbers I printed out a stencil and painted over the poster paper with a wet brush to try and make it appear less bold since I wanted to layer it with leaves and floral shapes. For the buildings itself I tried to use different materials to give the painting more detail, I adjusted the size and shape so it looks more realistic. For the paint I used different colours such as mixing yellow and blue for a green and adjusting it for different shades and tints. I layered the colours for a shadow for the grass and clouds. I wanted a natural colour palette  mixed with technology shades such as blue, black, grey and silver, to add more contrast and give a deeper meaning.
