My inspiration for this piece of artwork was the piece Dancing Mutants. Hernando R. Ocampo was born in 1911 in manilla, Philippines, which means he indirectly witnessed both the world wars. Dancing mutants was made by Hernando in 1965 at 54 years old. The painting depicts the horrors of the atomic age after World War Two. Hernando R. Ocampo was a Filipino artist best known for his abstract painting. The reason I used this piece as inspiration was because it reminded me of poppies in a field because of the use of the shapes and the colours evident. I chose poppy’s because they are commonly used for Remembrance Day to raise money for the wounded soldiers of World War 1 by selling paper poppy’s that people can pin to their clothing. The number I chose for my artwork was 11.11 because Remembrance Day is celebrated every 11th of November.

To make my artwork I used stencils that I made myself with cardboard for the numbers. In this artwork I used a lot of 3D materials like a foam ball which I cut in half and used as the center of the poppy in the middle of my composition. I used a pallet knife and acrylic paint to make textural marking on my piece. For the backwash of the painting, I used a damp sponge and paint to lightly go over the cardboard. The colour scheme for my artwork was very similar to Dancing Mutants, I used a lot of red and green. My version of dancing mutants is a more defined and less abstract version.
