My artwork is inspired by the painting ‘Forest Fire’ by Raden Saleh. I used an orange colour to represent the fire and the flames. I also used an ashy green to portray the forest. Using a bolster wood, I printed small circles at the top and bottom end of the cardboard. The circles are red and white for the Singaporean flag. As well as the circles, the 5 stars and the moon are also to represent the features on the Singaporean flag. I chose the number 752 because there have been 752 forest fires in Kenya. When my dad was young, he experienced a fire near his home in Kenya and he told me about how he and his family dealt with it. Also, I printed this number in the colours of the Kenyan flag. The number 40.5 was the rounded coordinate of an island near Singapore called Coney Island. On this island, the Brahminy Kite Bird is found. This bird is in the painting, at the top right corner. The last number on my artwork is 927. This number represents the amount of forest fires that have happened in Singapore. Since I was born and raised in Singapore, I wanted to relate my artwork back to me by making small tributes to Singapore using colours, shapes and numbers. Again, using bolster wood, I printed little circles that are different shades of green. I put most of these circles at the top left corner. As it gets lower and closer to the right on the cardboard, there are less circles. This painting uses dark toned colours like an army green, dark beige and an orangey brown.
