My painting is inspired by Hendra Gunawan's war and peace. Gunawan was born in june 1918, in Bandung Indonesia. He rose to fame in Indonesia in the 1930s, famous for his modern art style. His artworks let us see his peoples’ perspectives into Indonesia. War and peace represented the wars and the calm in Indonesia, which i found very interesting. I was mostly inspired by the vivid contrast of the war and peace scenery.

My artwork represented the icy, cool and mountainous scene while having fire, dark, flames on the other side. I chose these two elements to create contrast, as ice and fire are very opposite things. As I drew the icy side of the artwork, I used texture paste to create the bends and sharps of a mountain, making it look more realistic. The fiery side was mostly focused on the background than the grass at the foreground. I chose the number 4 to represent a mountain, as if I drew a mountain on the fiery side of the artwork. I think this way there are also similarities and not just contrast.

Looking into hendras artwork, i paticularly liked the black figures on the bottom of the artwork seemingly as if there are ghosts or enemies below the 2 soldiers on top. I do still wonder why one of the mans skin is blue? I think it was to show the modern side of th e artwork, by making it creative and unique.
