My artwork is inspired from a painting called dancing mutants. Dancing mutants is a painting by an artist called Hernando R Ocampo and this painting was created back in 1940. Hernando used a very interesting technique to paint his paintings. He first choose different shapes that he would draw on is painting using a pencil. Then he picks a piece of paper from a bucket that will decide what color he will paint on the shapes. Hernando likes to use bold colours to paint his painting and each painting won't have more than 6 colours on it. Most of his paintings look simple but they have a lot of different meanings to it.
I quite enjoy the painting process because I got to try out different layouts, shapes and different materials to try and make my painting more vibrant, appealing and overall better. I have had to layer my painting a lot of times because I didn't really like how it looked earlier but I am quite pleased with the final result. I chose the number 11 for my painting because that is when I started doing abstract/pop art and I really enjoyed it. The painting itself is spilt into 2 parts, the left part's background is very dark green with light blue/green + signs in there and on the right side the background is turquoise, blue and there and red slashes and at the centre it has a straight line that is split from blue and green and on the sides of both of the straight line, is a shorter line that is blue/black.
The painting itself might not look very special but the meaning inside can stretch and form into many different possibilities. For example, the left side could mean there is good in things that are bad, and the right side could mean nothing is perfect. I used different sizes of paint brushes to paint this artwork, I used small brush to draw the scratch marks. I have decided to split my painting into 2 because that can be a good comparison. I also know that my painting skills are not that great, so I decided to tell a deeper meaning instead.
