The painting I am using for this piece of work is Dancing Mutants by Hernando R Ocampo painted in 1965. This painting was originally inspired by the horrors of the Hiroshima atomic bomb.
This painting really interests me as it can be interpreted in many ways and the first impersonation of the artwork does not straight away suggest it is of the gruesome and tragic deaths due to atomic bombs. The painting uses loads of shapes that cone together and represent people dying in the flames of a fire.
When I first saw this painting I was a bit confused as I did not know how to interpret it or what it was about but since I was told it was or people suffering in the flames the picture is much clearer to me and I can see the people and the fire due to the colours and shapes Ocampo has used. In addition, Ocampo has used complementary colours in the painting and the shapes are also very different, the majority of the green shapes are wavy and subtle compared to the red shapes which are darker and look stronger as they are more compact and square like. The dark red in this is a stronger colour than the lighter green which symbolises the fire is stronger than the humans and that they are dying and being overpowered by the flames.
