Kara Lothian
My piece is inspired by the painting Boschbrand painted in 1849 by the artist raden Saleh. The Arab-Javanese painter Raden Saleh was a pioneer of Indonesian Romanticism. He was regarded as Indonesia's first "modern" artist, and the romanticism of the nineteenth century that his works reflected was at its height in Europe.
Some of his other paintings you may have herd of are Last resort, Deer hunt and a range of different portraits. In his painting he uses a range of colours but they are all made to look somewhat ashy this is because the painting is about a forest fire. Some of the colours that stood out to me were the reds and oranges from the fire coming out of the left hand side also the green leaves and trees blowing in the wind, so for my piece the background represents the fire and ash and the green leaves are repressing the trees in the background.
I decided to include blocks of different colours layered on top of eachother to remind you of the cliff that all of the animals are falling off of. In my painting you can see that i used a few inferential numbers such as 222 for example. I used 22 because that is the number of hills in Scotland, i chose this number for a couple of different reasons one was that the animals in Salehs painting are on a hill and i chose scotland because i am Scottish and i have great memories of walking and cycling up hills/mountains in scotland with my family.
The other number on my piece is 51 i thought to include this number because that is how many species of eagles there are that we know of on earth an in the top right of the painting by Saleh you can see an eagle flying toward us in the distance. I thought this number was important because on my piece you can see that there is a black silhouette of an eagle this is the focal point of my piece wich should draw your eye. This also represents bravery and resilience, wich is a skill a lot of people in Australia and other forest fire prone places have to have. Lastly you can see a dark line down the middle of the page this is representing the edge of a mountain.
